In the rural countryside of the small island of Tasmania, stands Montrose House (c1857), a Georgian style house from a bygone era. One of the outbuildings, an old rustic shed has been lovingly restored to its former glory by the new owners.

Now converted into a charming bookshop, the handsplit timbers lining the walls, a relic of Tasmania's pioneering past, form a perfect backdrop to the antiquarian, old and pre-loved books it contains.

Opened in December 2000, it is a realisation of a lifetime dream and love of books by the owner, Rita Lynn.

Specialising in old and out of print books, Montrose House also carries a broad selection of categories such as Military, History, Childrens, Gardening, Cooking, Travel, Business, Craft, Australian and Classic Literature, Religion and Sport.

As well as books, there are old records and sheet music, memorabilia and nostalgia to delight the senses. An old piano is just waiting for you to tap out a tune from an old piece of music! Or you can have a delightful trip down memory land and listen to old records being played.

A selection of artwork by local artists and a collection of old prints line the walls. Exhibited also, are the pictures of local artist David Bishop featuring the beauty of the state, as nostalgia of Australian's bygone days of plough horses and bullock teams
